Film: This is Me

Directed by: Sam Arthur

Liner Notes:

The film was inspired by an urban myth concerning jettisoned frozen waste from an airline toilet falling over Richmond (South west London). When researched further via the internet the story turned out to hold more truth than expected and so Sam was inspired to write his first short film (Try Googling ‘Blue Ice’). Shooting was hampered by bad weather, not unusual in the UK, but we picked the only rainy day in August for the shoot. We got round that in the end only to find difficulties surrounding filming at a major airport during times of huge security alerts. Not easy! Apart from that the experience of making the film was fantastic, so many great people got involved to make it happen and that was truly rewarding for a first time short film director like me.

Biography:

Sam studied Graphic Design at Central Saint Martins, London, long enough to realise he actually wanted to be a director. He promptly started to direct music videos including projects for Röyksopp, Delamitri, Idlewild, Delays, Futureheads and NineBlackAlps. His MTV ident features a laser beam shooting fawn and is played on every inhabited continent on earth. He’s also found time to circumnavigate the globe in 22 days with a small 16mm camera for some excellent CNN spots. Most recently he has completed a charming UK ad campaign for ethical grocers the Co-op. But by far his most ambitious and accomplished project is his first short film ‘This is Me’. The 3 minute film employs an inventive mixture of techniques and is a great success on the festival circuit. It was a finalist at Soho Rushes film festival, London and is featured in Resfest10. Sam is affiliated with Academy Films for commercial and music video projects.
